Global Educational, Economic & Social Empowerment (GEESE) believes that it is necessary to promote democratic values among masses, youth, civil society members and elected representatives to achieve sustainable development in the country. Retrospect on the political History of Pakistan and the present political situation in the country; it is extremely important to continuously raise awareness among masses about democracy, free and fair election and basic human rights. In local government elections of KPK, there was a dire need to educate voters as well as candidates on the process, structure and mechanisms of these elections. Since marginalized segments of society (i.e. women, minorities, youth, people with disabilities etc.) are usually ignored in the electoral process and have limited opportunities to contest elections, so there is a need to facilitate the inclusion and participation of marginalized segments in the local Govt. Elections. The Citizens’ Voice Project aim 1. To facilitate potential candidates, particularly from marginalized communities, in running for office in the local government elections; and 2. To mobilize citizens, particularly women, to vote in the local government elections. GEESE privileged to partake in Citizen’s Voice Project to strengthen masses’ voice by raising awareness through its active interventions at grass root level. Under this project, 05 staff members from local communities were hired and oriented on project activities, 54 youth were identified and built their capacity on LG system, 45726 IEC material printed and disseminated, built capacity of 292 LG candidates, 150 radio messages were on aired on LG system and mandate, 02 media briefings, 01 Political party roundtable, established 06 stalls at central locations, 10 community meetings and developed database of LG winning candidates. Through this project we facilitated the potential candidates, particularly from marginalized communities, in running for office in the local government elections and reinforced oversight of relevant bodies and advocated for reforming relevant practices or public attitudes for improved participation of women in the electoral process. We substantially raised awareness through media, political parties, public bodies to increase the turnout of women voters in district Haripur.
